Researchers` Night

The Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové participates in the Researchers` Night event, which has been held in the Czech Republic since 2005 and is represented by Czech universities, scientific institutes, observatories and other institutions, every year. In previous years, it has prepared an interactive presentation programme for visitors and, during the pandemic, an online broadcast on the Faculty's YouTube channel, where it can still be viewed.


The next edition of the event will take place on 27 September 2024 at 5:00 pm at the LF HK Educational Centre on the premises of the University Hospital Hradec Králové and the theme is Transformation.

Brain Week

As part of the festival of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic called Brain Week, the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové regularly organizes panel discussions for the general public on topics related to brain research and neuroscience. In the past years, there have been debates on pain and its treatment, the influence of diet composition on brain functioning and healthy sleep and its importance for the regeneration of the body.

ScienceFest

The largest outdoor science-popularization event in the Czech Republic called ScienceFest takes place every year on a weekday at the end of June in Prague's Dejvice district on Vítězný náměstí (Kulaťák Square) and in the adjacent Technical Street. The event is a joint project of universities, academic departments and leisure institutions, and the stand of the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové is traditionally located in the Charles University sector. For visitors, our medics prepare an entertaining interactive programme during which they can try out selected medical activities.

Mental Health Weeks

The Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové commemorates World Mental Health Day, which falls on 10 October every year. It participates in the national campaign Mental Health Weeks (10 September - 10 October) by organising debates, talks and additional activities for its students and staff as well as for the general public.

International and World Days

International Day of Women and Girls in Science

On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which falls on 11 February, the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové annually presents four interesting female doctors and medics from the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové who are engaged in scientific activities in the form of interviews and articles. Individual interviews and articles are available here.


The International Day of Women and Girls in Science was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2015 and the day is meant to remind us that women have a crucial role in the scientific world and that their involvement in research needs to be encouraged.

World Cancer Day

International Day Against Cancer is commemorated every year on 4 February. Its aim is to raise general awareness of cancer, its prevention, diagnosis and treatment.


In 2023, we commemorated this day with a special episode of the LF HK Medicast podcast with Assoc. Igor Sirák on the topic of Oncology and Radiotherapy. The podcast episode is available for listening in the podcast app.


In 2022, on its occasion, LF HK organised an online broadcast of a debate on the topic Myths, facts and hopes of contemporary oncological treatment, whose guests were Professor Stanislav Filip from the Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy of the University Hospital Hradec Králové and Professor Bohuslav Melichar from the Oncology Clinic of the University Hospital Olomouc.



World Diabetes Day

World Diabetes Day falls on 14 November and aims to focus on prevention based on a healthy lifestyle. To mark the day, the LF HK has prepared an online broadcast of a panel discussion for the public in 2021.
