Scientific research groups

  • A team of Latinologists with a long-standing interest in the didactics of medical terminology, building on the tradition of research at the Institute of Medicine.

  • A team of Czechologists dedicated to the didactics of medical Czech for foreigners.

  • A team of English language scholars with a long-standing interest in the didactics of English for medical purposes.

Clarification: at our workplace, individual sections of teachers were created according to the subject taught.

The Latin section (PhDr. Pavel Nečas, Ph.D., Mgr. Eva Schánělová, Mgr. Klára Čebišová) published a textbook Latin Medical Terminology in 2016, which is repeatedly reprinted in Karolin (2nd supplemented edition ready in 2024) and is used at several medical faculties in the Czech Republic as a core teaching material. In addition, Dr. Nečas from the Latin section collaborated with the ENT FN HK on the publication of a national textbook on Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, where he worked on the terminology of the FCN and operative medicine in ENT. The collaboration was not limited to the ENT FNHK, but also included the ENT FN Ostrava and Brno.

The Czech section (Mgr. Dagmar Vrběcká, Ph.D. , Mgr. Klára Čebišová) participated in two international projects CZKey and CZECHONLINE in cooperation with the Centre for Language Education of Masaryk University in Brno. It is an e-learning platform of Czech language for foreigners. The platform is aimed at our students, who will be able to supplement their medical Czech with topics that are no longer covered in our patient-oriented teaching. The Institute's staff regularly actively participates in the Teaching Languages in Medical Schools conference and international conferences (CercleS conference, Semmelweis University, University of Crete).
