Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery

The clinic carries out diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of disorders falling within the field of ENT and head and neck surgery. It deals with conservative and surgical treatment of diseases of the ear, nose and throat. Special attention is paid to remedial and reconstructive surgery of the middle ear, laryngeal microsurgery, voice surgery (phonosurgery), thyroid surgery, endoscopic surgery of the nose, sinuses, nasopharynx and base of the skull. In cooperation with the oncology clinic, it provides comprehensive care for patients with malignant tumours of the head and neck.

  • Ear examination and protection - development of the digital otoscope, 3D tympanometry, noise-induced hearing damage

  • New methods of evaluation of mucosal lesions of the larynx and pharynx using endoscopic techniques

  • Chronic secretory otitis - microbial influence on etiopathogenesis

  • Otology team - hearing tests and dizziness, cochlear implantation

  • Endoscopic team - evaluation of pharyngeal and laryngeal mucosal lining using endoscopic techniques

  • Swallowing disorders - examination and rehabilitation of swallowing disorders

The clinic is one of the leading clinics in the Czech Republic in ear surgery. In 2014, the first balloon tuboplasty was performed here in the Czech Republic. The results of surgical procedures in the area of the auditory tube were presented in foreign publications and in the monograph The Auditory Tube. In 2016, the Cochlear Implant Centre was created at the FNHK, and in 2022 the 100th cochlear implant was introduced in the centre.
